This activity equips you with the tools to identify and pursue quality job opportunities that align with fair working conditions and growth prospects.

You will learn how to navigate job platforms, craft a compelling resume, and prepare for interviews, ensuring you stand out as a candidate. The activity also includes resources to help you understand what constitutes a “quality job” and how to evaluate potential employers.

First, get inspired!

Mainstream career advice tells us to “follow our passion”, but this advice is dead wrong. Research shows that people who take this approach are no longer likely to enjoy or excel at their jobs. Instead, if you’re looking for a fulfilling career, here’s a new slogan to live by: Do what’s valuable.

Watch a TEDxYouth@Tallinn with Benjamin Todd, the co-founder and Executive Director of 80,000 Hours, an Oxford-based charity dedicated to helping people find fulfilling careers that make a real difference. He shares how to find work you love without following your passion.

Now, take action!

Participating in the following activities will give you practical skills in identifying quality jobs, creating a solid resume, and building confidence in presenting yourself to potential employers. These actions are designed to help you take the first steps in your career journey.
  • Understand what is a quality job. Attend a hands-on workshop to learn what makes a quality job, including fair wages, growth opportunities, and supportive environments, and explore real-world examples of such jobs.
  • Navigate job listings. Learn where to find quality job opportunities by exploring platforms like the EU Youth Guarantee, local job boards, and online networking tools. Discover tips for identifying companies that prioritise fair working conditions and employee development.
  • Prepare for job recruitment by creating a resume highlighting your personal qualities, academic achievements, and work or internship experiences. Practice presenting yourself in interviews, focusing on effectively communicating your strengths. Learn to ask the right questions during interviews to assess whether a job aligns with your expectations for quality employment.
